GDC Last Mile Distribution Event Kampala 22-23 July 2019

The Global Distributors Collective actively works to create dedicated spaces for its members to collaborate, network and share knowledge and experiences on last mile distribution.

Overview: This event creates a dedicated space for GDC members - last mile distribution companies - to learn from each other, build new partnerships, and explore opportunities to accelerate their businesses. 

Day one: The first day includes interactive bootcamps focused on topics such as salesforce effectiveness and retention, fundraising and sales & marketing. 

Day two: The second day focuses on investment readiness and access to finance, with funders including USAID, GET.invest, the Clean Cooking Alliance and SIMA funds sharing insights and opportunities for GDC members. The event will finish with a site visit to see GDC member Anuel Energy in action.

Russell Lyseight

Russell has over 20 years' work experience in the UK and Zambia, spanning commercial banking, property portfolio management, strategic change management and product management. Russell served on the boards of 3 UK NGOs' including Chair of the Audit Committee. VITALITE Zambia is a community-focused distribution and service organisation with 29 urban outlets and 470 rural agents. The organisation is focused on distribution and servicing of PAYGO solar home systems, PAYGO mobile telephony, PAYGO solar pumps, various agricultural inputs and highly-efficient charcoal cookstoves.

Lieselotte Heederik (Lisa)

Lieselotte Heederik (Lisa) is a social entrepreneur and development professional. She studied Rural Development Sociology at the University of Wageningen. In 2007 she and her husband moved to Banda Aceh in Indonesia to work for several NGOs on the reconstruction after the Tsunami. Whilst living in Aceh it was very difficult to obtain safe, affordable drinking water so they decided to make their own device for their household. Realizing the enormous need for safe & affordable drinking water, Nazava Water Filters was born; a for-profit with the mission to provide safe, affordable drinking water to everyone everywhere. 




William Ponela

William Ponela

William Ponela is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Zonful Energy. William graduated with a B.Sc.Civil Engineering Degree and a postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration and has over 20 years working experience. He has founded over 3 companies. William is currently the Chief Executive Officer and founder at Zonful Energy since its inception in March 2013. Zonful Energy is a for-profit social enterprise distributing and selling modular PV solar home and business energy systems on a PAYG basis to off-grid areas in urban, peri-urban and rural households in Zimbabwe.




John O'Keefe

John O'Keefe

John has over 35 years experience as an entrepreneur and executive having worked for Fortune 500 companies, mid-sized companies as well as several start-ups. His career has primarily been in the telcom and software development space. He currently serves a Senior Mentor for the Miller Center's Global Social Benefit Institute. He has worked with over 15 Social Enterprises across the globe. 


Pamela Rousos

Pamela Roussos

Pamela is Chief Innovation Officer at the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining the Center she worked with and for early stage software companies as a business and marketing strategy leader, helping founders create, refine, and execute their business strategy and go-to-market plans. She has over 20 years of experience growing teams and delivering products for both large and start-up software companies, working in various managerial capacities such as business unit manager, vice president of marketing, COO and CEO.

Nicole DeMarsh

Nicole DeMarsh is an Associate Partner with Open Capital Advisors where she manages the firm's Uganda office. OCA is a management consulting and financial advisory firm, focused on private sector growth and development. Nicole works across many sectors and is a leader in OCA's off-grid and decentralized energy practice. Recently, OCA alongside Catalyst off-grid launched VentureBuilder, a development company providing capital & technical assistance to local energy distributors. 




Jeannetta Craigwell-Graham

Jeannetta is energy, public-public private partnership (PPP) and legal consultant based in Kigali, Rwanda. She has over 9 years of experience in advising governments, lenders, donors and private developers on large-scale infrastructure transactions across various sectors and jurisdictions. Jeannetta holds a Juris Doctorate from Boston University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Wake Forest University in Political Science and Japanese.

Stephen has extensive experience in senior executive and CEO roles in finance, debt capital markets, banking industry and treasury management and most recently in financial services technology.  He has successfully built profitable businesses in Australia, United Kingdom and Asia. Benvell HK is a team of people with broad industry and finance skills focused providing finance to Distributors with sustainable business models.



Sammy Malaki

Sammy Malaki

Sammy Malaki is a seasoned professional in financial reporting and tax planning. He currently serves as Vice President-Africa for SIMA LLC, a social investor focusing on off-grid solar and microfinance. Prior to SIMA, he worked in Nuru Energy, a renewable energy enterprise. This role gave helped him to stay abreast of African solar market industry trends. Sammy has an MBA from University of Derby and is a Certified Public Accountant.


Maurice Kent

Maurice Kent

Maurice Kent is the Director of the Scaling Off-Grid Energy Grand Challenge at USAID's Global Development Lab. Maurice has spent more than a decade building and running new initiatives at USAID across the energy, open innovation, higher education, global health and human rights sectors. He brings a wealth of experience with donor funding processes, partnerships and innovative design to GDC and its members. 


Nicholas Fusso

Nicholas Fusso

Nicholas Fusso is Co-founder and Director at D-Prize. Through this work, he is increasing distribution of the world's most effective poverty interventions. D-Prize provides 'first funding' seed support to launch field organizations specifically building out delivery and distribution networks in developing regions. Since 2013, D-Prize funding has launched and supported nearly 140 companies, that now reach over 1 million people. Prior to D-Prize, Nicholas spent time at the Aspen Institute's Business and Society Program. He has an MBA from the Peter Drucker School of Management, and lives in San Francisco, California.

Frank Neil Yiga

Frank Neil Yiga is the co-founder and C.E.O of Anuel Energy Uganda. He is; a serial-social entrepreneur, angel investor and public speaker. During his High school (2001) he mobilized resources and set up his School’s first computer laboratory. In 2014, he started Anuel Energy Uganda, with a $300 investment. The company currently employs 14 full-time staff 90% youth and 70% women and has a turnover in excess of $150,000. He is a fellow of the S.E.N.D.E.A program and co-founder of the S.E.N.D.E.A network in Uganda.
